healthier popcorn

If you saw my post about family night, you probably noticed how much we loooove popcorn.
So I thought I would share with you, how we make our popcorn.
Instead of using microwave popcorn, I use an air popper, and believe it or not, it's cheaper to buy popcorn kernels than a box of microwave popcorn.
We all know that using a lot of butter is not good for you, even thou it taste wonderful.
Here is a healthy alternative. Coconut oil,
coconut oil has tons of health benefits, and this is a good way to get it in to your diet.
Just melt the coconut oil and pour it over your popcorn.

After we pour the coconut oil over the popcorn, we add some popcorn seasoning.
This is definitely my families favorite way to eat popcorn.

Gluten Free Biscuit Fritters

These are our favorite biscuits. I just love Pamela's pancake mix, I use it all the time. You can order it from amazon, if you plan on using a lot.
Take two cups of Pamela's mix
1/3 tsp salt
2 tbs. softened butter
1/2 cup warm water
In a bowl, combine ingredients
and shape into a ball and flatten each one.
Dough will be sticky.

After you have used all the dough.
Pour 3 to 4 tbs. of Grapeseed oil into skillet.
Make sure your skillet is hot.

When they turn brown, flip them over.

In the words of my sweet husband, "It's home in a skillet!"

This Golden Brown goodness will never get old. We love it & I hope you will too;)

Notebook Cover

I have seen a lot of these notebook covers and thought I would give it a try.
As you can see, I used an old notebook. This was my first attempt, and if I messed it up, it wouldn't matter.
step 1, get a notebook, old or new.

Pick at least three different colors. I was feeling brave, so I used four ;-)
If you are going to use any cut out design, go ahead and have them ready.
I forgot to take a picture, but I used my cricut machine to cut out a flower and the letter A.

Put a layer of Mod Podge on the notebook and carefully lay the paper on top of the notebook.

After you have your paper where you want it, start trimming the paper to fit the notebook.
Next, take some sandpaper and gently distress the edges.
I also took my distress ink and inked around the outside of the notebook.
Then, put one last layer of Mod Podge on top of the papers.
Here you have it ladies and gentlemen, my first notebook cover.
These would make great Birthday presents.
I see more notebooks in my future.

Creative Clothespins

Their is so many people doing this project, it's fun, easy, and the kids can even do it.
Just get some clothespins, and some scrapbooking paper. You could use fabric or any kind of paper that you have on hand. Take the clothespin apart.

lay it on your paper and trace around the clothespin.

It doesn't have to be perfect, as you can see my is not ;-)
Then cut out the strips.

Mod Podge them onto the clothespin.( I inked the sides with distress ink)
Let it dry for a couple of minutes, the put a coat of Mod Podge on the top of the paper.

Next, get a roll of adhesive magnets.

Then cut into strips to fit the clothes pins.
If your paper is a little wider than the clothespin, just use your scissors and trim around it.

Here is the final product. The creativity with these are endless. there are so many more things you can add to these. Open your creativity mind and go for it!

Guilt Free Sweet Tea

As you all know I am originally from the south. You can't be a true southerner unless you can make sweet tea.

Sweet tea is summertime in a glass;)

The bad thing is, sweet tea is loaded with sugar, it's just not healthy. I have tried to live without my sweet tea, but I can't!

In honor of my southern roots, here is a healthy version of sweet tea.
8 bags Lipton decaf tea bags
1/2 tsp pure stevia extract
Juice of two lemons

Place your tea bags in a pot of water. bring to a boil, turn off heat and let steep for five minutes.

Remove tea bags and stir your stevia into the hot tea.

When stevia is dissolved, pour the tea in a gallon pitcher and fill with water.

Then add your lemon juice, stir and let it sit in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving. (this helps the Stevia come to full sweetness)

I think you will be surprised how good this is.

My kids love it!

So go ahead, pour yourself a glass of summertime and start your summer early. It's okay you deserve it.

See Y'all

Not Your Traditional Easter Colors

Here is a little Easter project that can be fun for kids. I bought a pack of Easter eggs from the Dollar Tree.

This is some paper I had left over from the vintage frame project. You can use any paper for this project.

I tore long strips of paper, or should I say Ashlyn did, she did all the eggs but one.
Then Mod Podge them onto the egg. Make sure you put another thin layer on the out side of the paper.

TA-DA! There you have it, covered Easter eggs. I love the vintage look of the eggs.
Do you see the little flower on the jar? So easy to make.

All you do is draw five different size circles. make sure and add some distress ink around the edges.

This is going to sound weird, but it works. Take the circles and crinkle them up.

After you have them nice and crinkled up. Start glueing the pieces together, and end with a solid color.

This project only cost me a dollar.

Here is one last look at our Easter centerpiece.

DIY Candle Holders

Everybody in "Blog Land" are making these. I thought I would jump on the ban wagon, or is it band wagon?...anyway. I got these two vases from walmart. The tall one was three dollars and the short one was two dollars. Not to bad considering they are new.

You can get these guys anywhere. I picked some up at the dollar tree.

My trusty Gorilla Glue, oh, how I love you :-)
Enough of that, back to the project. Here is what I did. I took the little candle stick holder and, wait for it, wait for it...and glued it to the vase. This project is so easy, my eight year old could do it...But wait! thats not all. I thought I would take it one step further.

I found these vinyl pieces at Joann's for 75% off.
I'm guessing you already know what I did with them.

You were right! These turned out beautiful.

I bet your thinking, You need to go to the store and get the supplies to make these. Your right, you need to go to the store and get the supplies to make theses.

Here they are, all together. So, what are you waiting for?
GO! ;-)
